Labs Unlocked: The Queensland Herbarium

Labs Unlocked: The Queensland Herbarium

REGISTRATION OPENS 9AM, THURSDAY 27 FEBRUARY 2025.

Discover world-class research institutions with World Science Festival Brisbane’s Labs Unlocked.

The Queensland Herbarium is the centre for science, research and information on Queensland’s ecosystems and species of plants, fungi, algae and animals. As part of World Science Festival Brisbane, take a behind-the-sciences tour of the Queensland Herbarium’s collections and facilities to see the work of the scientists and technical staff who prepare, identify and store unique plant, fungi and lichen specimens.

Housing just under 1 million plant specimens, the Queensland Herbarium is one of the State’s most valuable scientific institutions. Botanists and the public continue to contribute thousands of specimens to the Herbarium’s collection each year, identifying new species and adding new distribution records to underpin Queensland’s biodiversity information.

The Queensland Herbarium also undertakes ecological research, producing tools and mapping products to support biodiversity planning and management.
