Nick Payne

Nick Payne is a British playwright and screenwriter whose catalogue includes more than 20 plays as well as book and play adaptations for film and TV. He studied at the University of York and the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, and completed the Royal Court Young Writer’s Program. His first commissioned play If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet opened at the Bush Theatre in 2009 and was lauded by the critics. It won the George Devine Award for most promising playwright and was later staged in New York in 2012.

Constellations is Payne’s best known and loved recent work. It opened at the Royal Court Theatre in January 2012 to rave reviews, subsequently moving to The West End and then to stages worldwide. This innovative work explores love, friendship and the notion of free will against the backdrop of quantum physics. It won the Evening Standard Best Play Award and was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Play. In 2015 Constellations hit Broadway and in 2017 it is Brisbane’s turn.
