UPDATE ON WSFQ GLADSTONE 2026

We would like to advise that World Science Festival Queensland will take on a fresh approach in Gladstone this year, with Queensland Museum presenting the STEM Inventors Challenge and Showcase Day at Central Queensland University (CQU).

 

The 2026 STEM Inventors Challenge, designed for students in Years 5 to 10, will launch on Monday 22 June 2026.

 

The STEM Inventors Showcase Day, which is the culmination of the 10-week Challenge, will be held on Friday 11 September 2026. It will celebrate the achievements of the students who participated in the program and will also provide an opportunity for students to connect with experts through focused activities.

 

Queensland Museum is committed to working closely with the Gladstone community to support meaningful STEM engagement in the region and we look forward to the festival returning in 2027.

Things to see and do in Gladstone

Heron Island

Agnes Water & 1770

Just 90 minutes south of Gladstone, Agnes Water and 1770 offer stunning beaches, great surf, and access to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. With scenic cruises, national parks, and breathtaking sunsets, it’s a perfect spot for a day of adventure followed by an evening of relaxation.

Gladstone Marina

A vibrant waterfront area featuring parklands, a water play park, scenic walking trails, and dining options with stunning harbour views. Stop in for lunch at Gladstone Yacht Club or Flavours Marina.

Auckland House

Savour the stunning harbour views and a relaxed coastal vibe of Auckland House, open daily from 7 am.

Tondoon Botanic Gardens

Situated just south of the city center, the Tondoon Botanic Gardens showcase a diverse collection of native and exotic plant species. Visitors can explore walking trails, picnic areas, and a lake, making it a peaceful retreat for nature lovers. The gardens also showcase the region’s unique flora.

Freshwater Fishing Lake Awoonga

A paradise for fishing and nature lovers, this freshwater lake is home to barramundi, diverse birdlife, and picturesque picnic spots.
