Queensland Museum STEM Professional Development Day

Summary

Teachers are invited to join us for this one-of-a-kind professional development experience during World Science Festival Brisbane on 21 March brought to you by Queensland Museum.

Along with VIP Access to The Hatchery: Turtle Conservation Experience, this full-day program includes two sessions, the first of which showcases Future Makers’ Fantastic Features Teacher Resource Book, and includes:

A scan of the oldest book in Queensland Museums’ collection, A Summary of Marine Fishes by Guillaume Rondelet, 1554, revealed by Queensland Museum’s librarian, Shannon Robinson, including a follow-up investigation for your students;
Access to rare animal specimens from the back-of-house collection, such as crocodiles, turtles, wallabies and more, as well as an analysis of their adaptations;
A close-up look at jellyfish stinging cells through the microscope, followed by a meaningful maths activity; and
An exciting animal camouflage experiment with a competitive edge.

The second session showcases Future Makers’ Problematic Polymers Teacher Resource Book, and includes:

An exhibit of problematic polymers for sorting and generating discussion about the impact of plastic on the natural environment;
An analysis of gut contents of native animals, indicating the impact of plastic on animal digestive systems;
A Science Bar demonstration of an edible and biodegradable drink bottle experiment you can implement with your class.

You will also receive the following resources:

1 x Problematic Polymers Teacher Resource Book
1 x Set of Animal Gut Content Photo Plates
1 x Edible and biodegradable drink bottle experiment kit
1 x Future Makers notebook… and more!

You will receive a certificate following the professional development day which will contribute to your required CPD hours.
