Labs Unlocked: Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology
19 March 2024
10:00am - 3:00pm

The University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus

Summary

Go behind-the-glass and discover how vaccines are engineered at The University of Queensland.

The Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) at The University of Queensland (UQ) is driving crucial progress in vaccine science.

AIBN is home to the BASE Facility, the biggest supplier of mRNA vaccines and therapies for research in Australia. With a state-of-the-art laboratory, BASE researchers are equipped with end-to-end capabilities for mRNA vaccine development, from their initial design through to Phase 1 clinical trials – allowing the next generation of mRNA vaccines and therapies to be built.

The manufacturing capabilities of the National Biologics Facility, have been key to advancing UQ’s molecular clamp technology to clinical trials, and were central to manufacturing the antibody materials for the world’s first human Hendra virus therapeutic clinical trial.

Visitors will enjoy a specially curated tour of the facilities and an opportunity to speak with researchers who are developing the next generation of vaccines.

Labs Unlocked is presented with support from Advance Queensland
