Damien Keating

Prof Damien Keating is the Deputy Director of the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute and a world leading researcher in the field of gut physiology. His research focuses on defining how specialised cells lining our intestinal wall are able to sense changes in the very unique environment of the gut, including the food we eat, the drugs we ingest and how such cells interact with the gut microbiome. He is especially interested in how these cells send signals to the brain to regulate mood and behaviour and the relevance this has to mental health and psychiatric disorders.
