Arena Atomica: Accessibility

South Bank Piazza Accessibility

Plan ahead for World Science Festival Brisbane’s Arena Atomica: Skate-ology event at South Bank Piazza with our accessibility information.

The entrance/exit to the South Bank Piazza has ramp access at approximately a 25-degree angle. The rest of path to the access seating area is relatively flat and on smooth concrete.

The seating banks inside the Piazza are inaccessible for some patrons as they require the use of stairs. Depending on the patron’s access requirements, assistance from staff can be provided to use the stairs at the patron’s request.

South Bank’s underground car park (located on Little Stanley Street) has 8 disabled car parking bays, which are located near the car park lifts at the northern and southern ends of level B1. The closest parking to the Piazza is located at the northern end. These spaces are available on a first come first served basis and cannot be reserved.

Accessible seating has been reserved within the Piazza on the flat floor section of the arena in the front row of seats. These seats can be booked through QTix. For more information on how to book these seats or for assistance booking outside of the webpage, please contact QTIX on 136 246.

Standard disabled bathrooms are located at South Bank Piazza and Stanley Street Plaza, while a specially designed accessible bathroom that includes a shower, ceiling hoist and a change table/shower trolley is located behind the Central Cafes.

To use the ceiling hoist in this bathroom, you will need to bring your own sling with loop attachments. The key for the ceiling hoist can be collected from the South Bank Visitor Information and Booking Centre, which is located in Stanley Street Plaza. Visit the South Bank Map to locate bathroom facilities in the Parklands.

Skateboarding is loud! Patrons with auditory access needs should be aware that the South Bank Piazza has echoed sound, and amplifies sound beyond the usual level. Arena Atomica: Skate-ology will have live skateboarding, which involves loud sounds as skaters skate, land on, and scrape the concrete. Patrons will be able to leave and return to the venue at any time, provided they have proof of a ticket with them, and show a member of staff or security when exiting.

For patrons in the Deaf community, the AUSLAN interpreted performance will be taking place at 1:00pm on Saturday, 29 March. Front of House staff will assist you in finding the reserved seats with the best view of the interpreter on the day.

Pram parking will be available inside the venue to the side of the arena stage. Front of House staff will assist audience members needing to use the pram parking. Please note, audience members will not be permitted to move around the arena while the show is taking place, as it poses a safety risk to the performers skating as well as the audience member themselves. Audienced are advised to carry any items they anticipate needing to their seat to stay with them during the performance. Prams are not permitted close to the seating bank, even in the front row.

Wheelchairs and strollers are both available for hire from the South Bank Visitor Information and Booking Centre. As well as standard wheelchairs, we also have a purpose-built pool wheelchair and a purpose-built beach wheelchair available. Standard wheelchair and stroller hire fees are $7 for a half a day (up to four hours) and $14 a full day (four hours and over, until 5:00pm), $21 overnight. The pool wheelchair and beach wheelchair are free to use and can be hired for a maximum of two hours only.

When hiring all wheelchairs (including the pool and beach wheelchairs) you must present photo ID and leave a $50 deposit which will be refunded when you return the wheelchair. When hiring a stroller, you must present photo ID and leave a $20 deposit which will be refunded when you return the stroller.
