Presented in partnership with World Science Festival Brisbane and Aboriginal Art Co.
Immerse yourself in a truly unique cultural and scientific experience during World Science Festival Queensland. Join us for a hands-on emu egg carving workshop led by talented Kabi Kabi artist Maurice Mickelo, where creativity, culture, and curiosity collide.
Unleash your imagination as you carve your own one-of-a-kind emu egg under expert guidance, revealing the natural layers, tones, and textures hidden within. This full-day immersive workshop offers a rare opportunity to explore a distinctive Aboriginal art form while connecting with Country and appreciating the science behind the intricate patterns and materials of the emu egg.
At Aboriginal Art Co, our workshops are designed to strengthen your connection with the natural world. Through emu egg carving, we honour the deep relationship between the emu, the land, and Aboriginal culture. This unique art form celebrates the resilience, continuity, and creativity of Aboriginal culture—far more than decorative objects, these carvings carry story, spirit, and a living connection to the world’s oldest continuing cultures.
