Join Norton Fredericks (Retritus) for an engaging and insightful talk as they explore the intricacies of their artistic practice. Drawing inspiration from Country and the vibrant stories it tells, Retritus will delve into how they capture this beauty through a multidisciplinary approach, working across fibre, textiles, metals, pottery, and photography.
Their work reflects themes of ecological threats, environmental contamination, trauma, and intersectional identity, while weaving together their expertise in chemistry, environmental sustainability, and ancient crafts. Through this, Retritus infuses their creations with geographical memories and examines how environmental factors interact with materials.
Aboriginal Art Co is also supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and Australian Government through through Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support (IVAIS), with philanthropic support through Tim Fairfax Family Foundation and Creative Partnerships Australia via the Australian Cultural Fund (ACF).
