Get in your best workout gear and join sports scientists and athletes at The Zone! Meet and explore the world of sports science with data technology, interactive activities and workshops showing the latest in athletic developments!

This free activation occurs over the final weekend of the festival and is for all ages and sports abilities. Come and test your athletic skills and participate in a wide range of sports science tests and challenges, provided by some of Queensland’s leading sports and technology institutions.

Drop-in Workshops:

  • PARAStart Program (UQ): Explore UQ’s ParaSTART program — a dedicated sports training and research initiative for people with disabilities, supported by the Queensland Centre for Olympic and Paralympic Studies (QCOPS). Visit our stall to learn about UQ’s Para sports opportunities, try skill-based games, and experience what it’s like to participate in a Para sport.
  • Queensland Academy of Sport: Discover how science and technology fuel Queensland’s elite Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Test your speed, power, agility, and endurance — just like athletes in the YouFor2032 talent identification program.
  • QUT Sports Technology: Dive into the world of sports tech! Explore e-sports and virtual sports innovations, tackle live-streaming challenges, and even try your hand at commentating virtual games.
  • Science of Fitness: Unlock the science behind your movement! Experience state-of-the-art biomechanics testing to uncover strength imbalances, improve performance, and prevent injuries. Whether you’re an athlete or a fitness enthusiast, this interactive experience offers personalized insights to help you move smarter and stronger.
