Andrew is the principal scientist in Geosciences at the Queensland Museum. Andrew’s research interests are varied but a central focus is the Green History of Australia which is examining the history and evolution of Australia’s rainforests through the study of both living and fossil plants. Andrew has written over 100 peer-reviewed and popular articles. He has described 14 new species of living plants and a similar number of fossil plants.
His current research is studying the cool temperate forests that occurred in the Mackay hinterland 30-32 million years ago that were preserved by volcanic eruptions. These studies provide a unique opportunity to better understand how vulcanicity has impacted on the evolution of the modern Australian flora.
