Dr. Whitmire is a group leader at the Queensland Brain Institute and a senior lecturer in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Queensland. She is a leading expert in neuroengineering where the scientific focus of her research group is largely driven by a single concept: Perception is a construct. Put simply, you may touch with your hand, but you feel with your brain. She is interested in this fundamental process that links sensation to perception in an ever-changing neural environment. Dr. Whitmire trained as a biomedical engineer in the United States at North Carolina State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Emory University. Following postdoctoral training in Germany at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, she established her own laboratory in Australia in 2023.
