Professor Elena P. Ivanova’s research focuses on the fundamental and applied aspects of Nano/Biotechnology including biomaterials and bacterial interactions with micro/nano-structured surfaces.
Elena’s team discovered that surfaces possessing particular nanoscale physical structures, which mimic the surface of certain insect wings, including cicadas, dragonflies and damselflies, can be lethal to bacteria.
She received her PhD from the Institute of Microbiology and Virology, Ukraine, Doctor of Science from the Pacific Institute of Bio-organic Chemistry, Russian Federation and Juris Doctorate from the University of Melbourne. Together with colleagues, Elena has published two books, edited 3 books, 26 book chapters, 4 patents, in excess of 400 research papers. Professor Ivanova has been the recipient of many international awrds and the Australian Museum Eureka Prize for Scientific Research.
