Gene Tyson

Professor Gene Tyson is a microbial ecologist and bioinformatician at the Queensland University of Technology. He has spent his career developing new technologies and computational methods to study complex microbial communities such as the human microbiome. By applying these techniques, Professor Tyson has made significant advancements in the field, including the discovery of new microorganisms and microbial functions that influence human and environmental health. In 2020, he established the Centre for Microbiome Research, where his group studies the relationship between the human microbiome and conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, anxiety and depression.
