Geoff Thompson began illustrating insects as a research assistant at University of Queensland in 1975. From 1982 to 2012, he helped care for Queensland Museum’s insect collection, participating in adventurous collecting trips.
He won a 2005 Queensland-Smithsonian Fellowship, studying digital illustration and imaging systems. In 2012, he won a large contract for imaging equipment from the Atlas of Living Australia and became a Collection Imager.
Geoff’s award-winning illustrations and photographs are widely used. He was president of the Entomological Society of Queensland in 2012 and chaired the 2019 GNSI Brisbane Conference. He has been printmaking since 1998. He regularly photographs peacock spiders for artist Maria Fernanda Cardoso.
