Gordon is an Academic Psychiatrist and founder of the Black Dog Institute. Formerly he was Head of the School of Psychiatry UNSW and Director of Psychiatry Prince of Wales Hospital. He is author of more than 1000 academic publications including 24 books, with the last 2025 one “A Gut Mood Solution” detailing the “curing” of a bipolar I disorder by a faecal transplant. He is also author of two books of fiction, previous writer for television (eg Mavis Bramston Show) and Oz magazine, cartoonist for The Bulletin, reviewer for the Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian, and ABC Science show journalist.
