Hedda is living her dream as a sport scientist at the Queensland Academy of Sport. She works with a team of inspiring athletes, coaches, sport scientists and other support staff who use science to help understand and improve Olympic and Paralympic athletes’ performances. Together they solve problems using their knowledge of physiology, anatomy, chemistry, physics, maths, neuroscience and pedagogy. Each day is unique: she might be helping to measure ground reaction forces and muscle activity during a sprinting block start, or supervising a cyclist’s training session at simulated altitude, or administering rehabilitation exercises to a rugby sevens player on a specialised force dynamometer. Hedda’s days are filled with fascinating challenges.
