Dr Larisa Labzin is a viral immunologist who is dedicated to unravelling the mystery of how our immune system detects and responds to acute viral infections. This is key to understanding what happens when the immune system gets it right, so we can emulate it for effective vaccines, and what happens when that sensing goes wrong: when people get sick with these viruses. Dr Labzin completed her undergraduate degree at UQ, before moving to Bonn,Germany for her PhD, and then Cambridge, UK for her postdoctoral research. Dr Labzin returned to QLD in 2019 to study how viruses including SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza are detected by the immune system.
