Lindsey Bignell is a particle physicist who builds experiments which hope to measure dark matter. These experiments are conducted in underground laboratories deep enough that the background of cosmic rays experienced at the Earth’s surface is stopped by the overhead rock. He is a working group leader for SABRE, the first dark matter experiment to be housed in a new underground facility, built 1 km deep inside the Stawell Gold Mine. Lindsey also contributes to the Cygnus collaboration, which plans to build a worldwide network of dark matter detectors in several underground facilities, including Australia.
