Olivia Carter is a Professor at the University of Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences. She completed a PhD in neuroscience at The University of Queensland exploring the effects of hallucinogenic drugs on visual awareness, followed by a post-doctoral research fellowship at Harvard University. Currently, her work focuses on two main questions: how do the brain’s natural chemicals control complex behaviours, thoughts and perceptions?; and what are the factors that determine the contents of an individual’s conscious experience? Olivia also has an interest in neuroethics, particularly in relationship to cognitive enhancing agents and technologies.
