Prof Rainer Grun is Professor in Archaeogeochemistry at Griffith University and Director of the Australian Research Centre of Human Evolution (ARCHE). Prof Grun is a world-renowned leader in Quaternary geochronology as well as large-scale isotope mapping for the reconstruction of ancient human migrations. He is an acknowledged leader in the field of ESR dating and has extensive experience in U-series, radiocarbon and luminescence dating. His work on Qafzeh, Skhul and Tabun in the early 1990s contributed to a complete revision of our views on modern human evolution. More recently, his state-of-the-art dating methods pushed back the origins of our species by an unprecedented 100,000 years.
