Rossana Ruggeri

Rossana Ruggeri is an astrophysicist studying the dark Universe—the unseen forces shaping galaxies and cosmic evolution. She maps millions of galaxies to uncover the mysteries of dark energy and gravity using techniques like weak gravitational lensing.

Originally from Italy, Rossana earned her PhD in the UK before moving to Australia, where she now holds a prestigious ARC DECRA fellowship. She is currently a Lecturer at QUT and an Honorary Fellow at UQ. She is one of the lead scientists in the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), where she is investigating how gravity bends light from distant galaxies.

Beyond research, Rossana is passionate about science communication. Her work has been featured in New Scientist, Astronomy, and Forbes, and she serves on the DESI Diversity Committee to help create a more inclusive scientific community.
