Stephen Pyne is a former wildland firefighter who has written widely about fire history and management. His books include fire histories for Australia, Canada, Europe, and the U.S. with small studies elsewhere and a book on his notion of a Pyrocene in press. Other works deal with Antarctica, the Grand Canyon, the Voyager mission, and just released The Great Ages of Discovery: How Western Civilization Learned About a Wider World.
Stephen is currently an emeritus professor at Arizona State University and lives on a small urban farm with sheep, chickens, citrus, and gardens.
