Prof. Vicente M. Diaz (Pohnpeian) chairs the Dept of American Indian Studies at University of Minnesota, where he also directs the Native Canoe Program. Diaz specializes in Indigenous canoe culture and ocean voyaging in Micronesia and the Native US Great Lakes, through affiliation with Utts (canoe houses) Lefanifar and Wenimai of Polowat Atoll in the Central Carolines.
His major work include Repositioning the Missionary: Rewriting the Histories of Colonialism, Native Catholicism, and Indigeneity in Guam (Hawaii, 2010), Sacred Vessels: Navigating Tradition and Identity in Micronesia (VHS, 1997), and the recent Paafu Stories (2021) and Augmented Paafu Mat (2021) installations at the Air Canoe Exhibit at the Tenth Asia Pacific Triennial, QAGOMA, Brisbane, Australia.
