Xanne Janse de Jonge

Dr. Xanne Janse de Jonge is an experienced academic in Exercise & Sport Science. Her main area of research expertise is the unique physiology of women and how this affects exercise. She is interested in how the female hormone fluctuations during the menstrual cycle affect sport performance. Her research focusses on muscle function and whether the “trainability” of women is affected by hormone fluctuations. For example, should strength training be programmed around the menstrual cycle? Xanne’s research includes the effects of endogenous/natural hormone fluctuations, as well as exogenous/synthetic female hormones, such as in hormonal contraceptives, like the pill. Xanne has also collaborated on applied sport science research with several sporting organisations, including Judo Australia and the Union of European Football Associations.
